“Storytellers” Eco Cycle Tours take you on a unique cycling experience in Rarotonga. The Storytellers experience offers a variety of bike riding tours to suit most levels of riding fitness and experience.

Storytellers tour guides are passionate and knowledgeable about the local culture, history and environment and enjoy sharing their love of the Islands with tour guests. Cycling is the perfect way to experience Rarotonga ‘off the beaten track’- enjoy seeing and experiencing what many visitors miss out on. Storytellers strive to make your experience of the Cook Islands unforgettable, so that you take home memories that last a lifetime.

DISCOVER TOUR: 8-12 km ~ 3 hour tour ~ basic riding skills ~ lunch.

Discover a rich cultural heritage along the ancient coral road – the Ara Metua. You will cycle along back roads and tracks, witnessing the tranquil pace of local village life. There are plenty of stops to take in the magnificent scenery, learn about many aspects of Rarotonga life, and try delicious fruits. This cycle tour is set at a relaxed pace where you will be stopping regularly to learn about the Cook Island. The ride is predominantly on level / gently sloping terrain covering a distance of around 8 – 12 kilometres on mainly sealed roads. The Discover tour finishes with a delicious locally made lunch. This tour comfortably caters for those of a basic fitness level and limited riding experience. Pick up is between 7.40 and 8.25 am at your accommodation, and you will be returned between around 1 and 1.30 pm. You will have the option to swim so please be prepared with swimwear under your clothing, and wear some sturdy shoes for cycling. Please bring some water with you - we can top this up along the way if you run out.

EXPLORE TOUR: 12-16 km ~ 4 hour tour ~ confident riding skills ~ lunch / cocktail & swim.

Explore pathways running between the coast, the ancient coral road – the Ara Metua - and hidden valleys. There is plenty of village exposure and some stops to enjoy the beautiful surrounds and learn about what you are seeing and experiencing. We offer flexibility to cater to the different interests of our tour group, but with the ever-present focus on stories relating to the local environment and cultural heritage set amongst the natural habitat that can quite literally take your breath away. We cover 12 - 16km at a moderate pace over 4 hours, with plenty of stops for Storytelling. Weekday morning tours are followed by a delicious local lunch, while weekend afternoon tours are concluded with a cocktail drink of your choice at a beach bar location. There is a combination of road and track riding, suiting average fitness levels and riding experience. This tour is perfect for the explorer at heart; children can also be catered for on this tour - just get in touch if you want to discuss this option. Pick up from your accommodation is between 7.40 and 8.25am; return is between around 2 and 2.30pm. Please wear some swimwear under your clothing in case there is the opportunity to swim, and wear some sturdy footwear suitable for cycling. Please also bring a water bottle with you - we can top this up along the way if you run out.

EXCITE TOUR: 18+ km ~ 5 hour tour ~ experienced riding skills ~ cocktail & swim.

Excite is how we describe the experience you will have cycling around some of the back roads and tracks of Rarotonga. There is a strong emphasis on storytelling with the areas you will visit setting a magnificent backdrop to some truly engaging stories. You may cross a creek or two depending on where we venture - so you can expect to get a wet and possibly a bit muddy. As your cycle tour nears its end you can look forward to a sunset cocktail or drink of your choice on the beach, and the opportunity to cool down with a swim. Excitement is what you get with around 4.5 to 5 hours of riding - depending on how many stops we make and what you find along the way - over a distance of at least 18kms. This tour is suitable for experienced cyclists with a reasonable level of fitness, who want to experience a little more of the island than is offered in the discovery and explore options. Pick up from your accommodation is between around 11.30am and 12pm, and return time is between 6.30 and 7pm. Ensure you bring water bottles with you.
